assistance required

OK. I am in need of some wisdom from any cat owners out there that are skilled in the domestic arts.

I accidentally shut a cat in the house today when I went out. The cat peed on the bath mat.

I have washed the mat and hung it outside to destink. Unfortunately, the rancid stench of cat piss seems to have soaked into the floor tiles (or the grout).

I have mopped the floor with my usual cleaner (white vinegar) with no effect. I am not game to try anything else lest I set the smell.

Any suggestions? Proven methods? Things to avoid?

Is there a hardware store nearby, or someplace that sells all kinds of cleaning products? There are some things available in places like that to remove pet odors and stains. Good luck with it.

Bicarbonate of soda is your best friend here!! And a little clothes washing detergent! The bicarbonate of soda is great at getting rid of smells, and the biological detergent breaks down the enzymes in the pee!! Or something! Ok, I'm no scientist, but it works! The bicarbonate of soda is the most important thing here though!!

never fear, the cat piss solution is here!!!

Remove cat urine smell from carpet - Shampoo the carpet, pour hot water over the soiled area (drenching it), use a shop vacuum to suck up the excess water. Pour club soda over the area, then apply Spray 'n Wash over the area and mop or scrub the area well. Allow to spot to soak for 30 minutes longer, suck up the solution, and allow to air dry (use a fan if you have one).

If it is a large area or an abundance of urine it may have soaked into your sub flooring. If there is a way to fold back the carpet to expose the floor, apply the Spray 'n Wash to the sub-flooring and allow it to soak for 30 minutes, then just wipe it up (do not rinse). The Spray 'n Wash has enzymes that destroy the ammonia crystals and neutralizes the odor.
try that on for size!! good luck!
